Revisited: Curren$y Spitta Mixtapes

Curren$y has managed to stay off my radar for most of his (impressive) career. Sure I heard a verse by the guy on feature tracks and spotted him on various “X rappers to look out for in 20XX” but I’ve never really listened to dude’s work until recently. And I have to say: Spitta is just rock solid. Dude’s been releasing free mixtape after free mixtape and it’s still hard to find one badly-crafted track. And since I arrived at this conviction it’s only reasonable to (re)introduce my loyal readers to Curren$y:

The Drive In Theatre (Free Mixtape, February 2014)

Just very very very nice. Don’t even know what to say on top of that. To be honest: This collection of tracks goes way harder than Hova’s MCHG. And this is a mental Jay Z fan’s opinion. Heavy rotation. My favorite tracks would the sequence of tracks 4-6 “Vintage Vineyard”, “Stolen”, “$ Migraine feat. Le$”…sooo shmoove.

The Stage EP (Free EP feat. Smoke DZA, prod. by Harry Fraud, October 2013)

“La Musica De Harry Fraud” = 100% indicator for playlist longevity. Offering only 4 tracks, this EP might just have been that famous “first high” for me that immediately made me a fiend and left me chasing that feeling again and again…forever. Get hooked yourself!

New Jet City (Free Mixtape, February 2013)

Modern day classic. Gotta quote Jasmin V.’s very adequate review here. Nothing to add:

currensy spitta best mixtapesSpitta is by far one of the most consistent rappers dropping dope new music today (a lot of it for free). I like to call him the underground Jay Z. Here we have New Jet City. It dropped earlier this year in February and has proven to have continued replay value. I caught myself having it in my car stereo till this day. With tracks like “Three 80″, “Sixteen Switches Pt 2″, and the banger “Bitch Get Up”, Spitta remains our favorite stoner with a lazy flow, but with bars that still hit strong. Andretti also managed to get some of the best producers to assist with this project, including Harry Fraud, Cardo, and Lex Luger, just to name a few. Among the featured artists, Jadakiss, Styles P, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, Juvenile, Trinidad James, French Montana, Juicy J, as well as fellow Jet Lifers Young Roddy and Trademark Da Skydiver, all make appearances. Easy on the ears, New Jet City is perfect for a less than perfect day like Monday. Jet Life.
