Happy Air Max Day 3.26! Sneakerporn By Ascoyne

3.26, the day that started it all, marks the celebration of Tinker Hatfield’s odd invention, a.k.a. “the window to your sole”. Why exactly Nike is releasing a special anniversary edition of the OG colorway with a neon yellow outsole for the 27th birthday I don’t really know. What I do know, though, is that the original silhouette of the Nike Air Max 1 will forever be one of the finest shapes in the game.

In the form of a literal window to the sole, the invisible became visible and Nike Air cushioning forever changed how Nike designed running sneakers. Twenty-seven years have passed, visibility has increased, the legend has grown, and the time to celebrate has arrived. 3.26, the day that started it all, marks the celebration of an experiment turned icon. To kickstart the festivities, a limited edition Air Max 1 will be released to usher in a new tradition.

Instead of subjecting you to images of the most recent release (which you will find anywhere anyway) I’d like to introduce you to a personal Top 10. The selected kicks are not only beautiful in their own right but also photographed craftily by one of German sneaker game’s top dogs “Ascoyne“. Check out his verdict on each pair on his blog and peep the gallery below! All rights reserved of course, thanks Ascoyne for letting me use the pics here!

Apparently all shoes are part of a exhibition in Cologne’s very own Sneaker Museum, too. So check them out live!.
